Session Info

Family Portraits (Long Island, Westchester, NYC)

Fun and Natural portraits of your 1 (and 2) year old along with the rest of the family

These sessions can be done in your home, though generally once babies hit the 1 year mark I recommend doing the sessions outside... New York City streets, Central Park, Times Square, Soho, Brooklyn and other famous Manhattan landmarks.

New York City streets (side streets with no traffic), Central Park, Tribeca, Soho, LIC Waterfront with the NYC Skyline, Brooklyn and other famous NYC landmarks.

We also serve clients in Long Island (including the Hamptons), Westchester, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Age: Often done closer to 13 months so standing/walking is an option.

Time: Sessions are planned based on your baby's nap schedule. Mornings are usually when they are happiest, though if possible, late afternoons offer better lighting.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of scheduling based on your baby's schedule... We should put ourselves in the best position for success.

The Best

I originally reviewed Roy with the below in August of 2011:

Roy was fantastic. He just photographed our little girl on Saturday and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the online gallery. Roy was amazing to work with. He has an incredibly warm personality that my entire family fell for in just a few minutes. He had our 19 month old listening and posing and our 7 year old bulldog showing energy that he hasn't had in years. Thanks Roy! Can't wait to see the pics

As of July 2012, this what I would say:

We could not be more delighted with the pictures that Roy took of our little girl and our bulldog. They came out incredibly well and we have gotten non stop compliments on them. I am so fond of Roy that I actually passed out his business cards to a number of local children store business owners to help spread the word. I hope I didn't mess up and make him busier than he already is because we want him back ASAP. Roy is the best, you can't make a mistake using him. Not only is the quality of his work amazing but he has the personality that allows for everyone's comfort. thanks Roy!

Lifestyle portraits at home or natural outdoor session. We come to you... NYC, Central Park, Long Island, Westchester, CT, NJ.

Generally, the 1 year portrait photography session marks the first time when we'd move to outdoor portraiture, though if you prefer,  a home session is still an option where we'd do lifestyle portraits around your home (home sessions are usually done on weekday mornings).

1-year sessions are often done at 13-14 months so your baby can be a little more steady standing up and possibly walk during the shoot.1 year and 2-year sessions are usually about 1.5 hours long... Babies at this age will only stay happy for so long before they get tired and we have to call it a shoot. To maximize our time, we'll plan around their morning nap time, it's not uncommon for us to do start shooting around 7:30-8am and be done before the 10 am nap. Obviously, every child is on a different schedule so we'll discuss the timing together.

More Flexibility

Serving clients on location means the photos can be done in the comfort of your own home or at an outdoor location of your choice. These sessions are unlike the newborn sessions because we are sure to capture your baby's personality, playfulness, and expressions.  Looking through the Baby Portrait Gallery you will notice there is a wide variety of 'looks'. At this age, we have more flexibility since we can go outside with the baby and get something totally different than the newborn and baby photos.Sessions are done on location (NYC, Brooklyn, Bronx, Westchester, New Jersey, Long Island, Hamptons).

Popular 1- Year portrait locations in New York City

Over the years I've grown a collection of routes that I find work well... Different locations are better for certain sessions but not for others...

For example, at the 1 or 2 year session where I'm working with a little baby who might want to just run around... It's important to have open spaces without traffic. That doesn't necessarily mean Central Park, There are lots of small side streets in the city that I know have worked well for this sort of situation.

Popular locationsGreat locations for 1-year sessions are Central Park, Prospect Park, Battery Park City, Tribeca, Downtown Manhattan, Long Island City Waterfront, Dumbo Brooklyn, Hampton Beaches and any park in between. If you are based on Long Island we can meet at a local park or beach.:

Outdoor PortraitsThe 1-year sessions are best when your baby can stand up on his/her own.

Absolutely Recommend

We used Roy for our family pictures this fall in Central Park. We were absolutely thrilled with the results - beautiful photos of our toddler daughter that truly capture her personality and spark. Roy was professional, courteous and fun to work with, and did a great job making our daughter feel comfortable and entertained during the session.
Roy had a great eye for the lighting in Central Park and managed to capture the most beautiful times of day at various locations throughout the Park. Finally, Roy turned the pictures around and delivered the finished product to us sooner than he promised (and the promised turn-around was already quite quick).
We would absolutely recommend his services, and we can't wait to show our families the photos!

Definitely Going To Use Him Again.

We are so happy with our photo shoot. Roy was so great at guiding us into natural poses that reflected our personalities. The shoot was so much fun and our photos are amazing. Roy worked so well with our one year old.

He took some astonishing photos of our son and he didn't cry once. We are definitely going to use him again!
